Being a Woman
poem by
Samantha Hurley
I remember becoming an object
Realizing my body was not just mine anymore
It needed to be hidden now
I was still a child
Unprepared
I remember the moment
They asked me when I’d start to care
About how I dressed it
I still don’t care
I’m just taking ownership back of what is mine
