Origin & History
Blush as a defined colour emerged in the 20th century, though similar tones appear throughout art history in depictions of skin and flowers. It became commercially defined through the cosmetics industry — "blush" became a standard product category name. The "millennial pink" trend of 2016–2018 was essentially a more saturated blush.

Psychology
Delicate, intimate, and gentle. Blush is the colour of skin flushed with emotion — embarrassment, excitement, or warmth. It is one of the most universally flattering and non-threatening colours. Associated with femininity, tenderness, and new beginnings.
In Culture
Blush became culturally dominant through the "millennial pink" trend, appearing in everything from smartphone cases to restaurant interiors. In bridal fashion, blush has largely replaced pure white as the most popular wedding dress colour. The rose gold colour trend of the 2010s is essentially a metallic blush.
Natural Sources
Historically achieved with very dilute cochineal or madder lake, mixed with lead white (toxic). The subtle warmth of blush requires careful mixing of warm pink with white.
Making It Yourself
Mix titanium white with the smallest amount of quinacridone rose (PV19).
Add a tiny touch of yellow ochre to warm the pink slightly.
For a dusty blush: add a small amount of raw umber to grey and warm the mixture.
Natural: extremely dilute cochineal solution with white chalk — produces a soft blush watercolour.
