Bio
Rita Hisar is a Contemporary Artist of Italian/Czech descent, currently based in Toronto, Canada.
Her work is unique as she uses a palette knife and layers and layers of acrylic paint to create vibrant and textured paintings, capturing a moment of beauty and joy in the incredible world God has created.
She paints intuitively, combining elements of Expressionism, Pop Art and Fauvism to create unique iconic portraits, wildlife or figurative paintings, while creating a delicate balance of realism (control) and abstractionism (chaos).
Although she has studied art formally at OCADU (Ontario College of Art and Design University) and has been creating art her entire life, only recently has she decided to pursue it professionally, after working in Law and Education.
She has shown her work in Art Fairs/Exhibitions in New York, Miami, London, Barcelona, Toronto and the Caribbean. Her work is held in private collections in Canada, The USA and Europe.

Artist Statement
Live In Colour. It means to live fearlessly, with passion and purpose. In art, as in life, Rita Hisar has tried to do the same: create bold, vibrant portraits, nudes or still life with just a palette knife and acrylic paint. The colours explode on the canvas with beauty, energy and texture. Her work is influenced by Fauvism and an Expressionist/Pop Art Style, reflecting a spirit of hope and optimism.
“Art should always lift you up, take you to a place where you feel pure joy, like when you were a child” .

Inspired by the vibrant pastel colours of the Caribbean and the raw honesty of Graffiti Art, she creates unique Urban Art paintings that balance elements of chaos (abstractism) and control (realism).

“Really what I am doing, is just capturing ‘moments’ on canvas. Moments of joy, moments of beauty, everyday moments, that are saturated with colour and live on in our memory.”
