मैं नारी हूँ नीरा मैं पानी बन बहती चली खेली पर्वतों के आँगन में इतराई वादियों के आँचल में झरना बनी तो सब पास आ मुझमें समा गए बाढ़ बनी तो सब त्राहि होकर दूर भागे बरखा बन गिरी और सींचे खेत जहाँ नहीं बरसी, हुई मरुस्थल में रेत किसी ने गंगा समझ अपने पाप धोए किसी ने छिड़क कर अपनी ज्वाला बुझाई थी बनारस के घाट पे अति पवित्र हुई चार कोस पे मैली नैनों से टपकी तो गले लगा लिया पसीना बन गिरी तो गंधित करार दिया कभी बाँध में रहकर भी ना सिमट पाई कभी सागर में समा कर भी अस्तित्व ना पाई रही सीमा में तो अपने किनारे बसाए ग्राम नगर सुनामी बन उत्पात मचाया तो उजाड़े शहर मैं नारी हूँ नीरा मैं पानी बन बहती चली - डा० कनिका वर्मा I Am Woman, I Am Water I flow on, becoming the water. I played in the courtyards of mountains, I preened in the lap of the valleys. When I became a waterfall, everyone drew near to dissolve in me When I became a flood, everyone fled in terror. I fell as rain to nourish the fields Where I did not fall, I became the sand of the desert. Some saw me as the Ganges and washed away their sins Some sprinkled me to extinguish their flames. At the ghats of Banaras, I was called utterly sacred a few miles later, I was declared impure. When I dripped from the eyes, I was embraced When I fell as sweat, I was branded as stench. Sometimes, held by a dam, I could not be contained Sometimes, merging with the ocean, I found no identity. While staying within bounds, I settled villages and towns on my banks When I rose as a Tsunami, I laid cities to waste. I am woman, I am water; I flow on, becoming the water. - Kanika Verma
