Pigment & Material
Undyed flax fibre colour. In paint, a mixture of raw sienna with white and a touch of yellow ochre.
Origin & History
The colour of undyed linen fabric — slightly golden, slightly sandy, very human. Linen was one of humanity's first textiles, made from flax plant fibres for over 30,000 years.
Psychology
Linen feels clean but not clinical. It is the colour of everyday skin in neutral light — honest, unadorned, workmanlike. Grounding and real.
In Culture
Ancient Egyptians used white linen as burial wrappings — linen as both daily fabric and sacred vessel. In Ireland and Belgium, linen-weaving became a cultural identity.
